We did a neat lesson in SS yesterday. We are reading from a book about how to be a blessing. This thing kind of comes more naturally to me than to some people, and definitely more so to women than to men.
My "spiritual gifts" are centered around hospitality, but some people, me included, have to be reminded to be a blessing to someone. it could be from anything to appreciating and telling someone how much you love their class or ministry, sending a card, baking brownies...etc... you get my drift. we all do these things, but are we really looking for the one who needs it the most? it is an eye-opener.
The handout they gave says this, with lines to fill in .
Appreciation -the simple act of recognizing the good in others and acknowledging it_________
Acceptance-like someone just as they are______________________________
Approval-count someone of value____________________________________
Affection-caring for someon and expressing those feelings ___________________
Attention-looking at and listening to someone, disregarding distractions____________
Affirmation-notice what others do_______________________________________
Admiration-sincere compliments__________________________________________
It also challenged us to make sure we do these things for our kids. Make sure they know they have our approval and attention. appreciate them. give them attention, UNDIVIDED.
I filled mine out and am excited to be a blessing. I usually dont write down how i plan on being a blessing, but God really spoke to me certain names .
So , tonight we are taking a good friend a meal, cause she would appreciate it very much. funny thing is , she invited no no no she INSISTED that we stay , eat with them and swim . i tried to refuse but she wouldnt let us. so now she is being a blessing to our family. Oh well, we tried.
Okay, here is your challenge if you choose to accept it (lol) write down those 7 categories and fill in the blank with names. and do something sweet for each of them. I plan on taking blakes wed night "royal ranger" teacher brownies, i complimented someone on their outfit yesterday at church, i am sending our childrens pastor a birthday card, and i plan on sending out a couple of emails. none of this takes time out of my day, and hopefully it will make someone smile. SO when you bless someone, come back and tell us what you did (we need new ideas) and how they reacted. looking forward to the results.
take care

I am a HUGE believer in this. Unfortunately, I don't know alot of people out here yet. But I'm not going to let that stop me. People almost seem dumb-founded when a stranger does something nice...it almost makes it more fun. Is that wrong? :)
