I do not know what i am going to do with this girl child of mine. She has started a new attitude the past two weeks where she is (more than usually) sassy and defiant. Oh we are going round and round. and you know what? i refuse to let a 4 yr old WIN! not gonna happen. I think part of the problem is she is so tired. She goes to bed right on time, but usually after a long day of activities, then is up before 7 ish. her little body needs a nap, but we really have phased them out lately. right now she is passed out on my bed; she was waiting for me to get out of the shower. poor thing. wonder if she is feeling okay? hummm...
she is so sensitive and doesnt like to be "trouble-talked" as she calls it, but she knows how to behave and yet refuses. She is antagonizing blake all day long and i refuse to let her be a bully or a brat. so she gets trouble talked and punished. whew- this is going to be a lonnngg one if she doesnt snap out of it.
i know most of you go through this as well, but i am just venting.

Hmmm, if it makes you feel any better, I haven't noticed. I think it probably has a lot to do with her needing more sleep. Today we have been at the in-laws' house. TJ had a little nap, but his day was non-stop playing with Katie and everyone else. He's not as, ummm, controlled here as he is at home with me. He's been a holy terror. You can tell he just needs to sit and calm down and probably sleep, but he is dead-set against it. I tried to get him to stop so I could "trouble-talk" him today, and he just ran!

You are doing a good thing by addressing it now - it will pay off in the long run.
Thanks for visiting my blog - we go to the SA zoo quite a bit, so I post pics from there from time to time (okay, we USED to go to the zoo quite a bit, pre-Tyler, but I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things again soon!).

Gina....I am having the most awful time with Claire right now too. I think she just gets so worked up and overtired during the day and I catch the brunt of it when I get home. I can read your blog....did it change or is it because I'm sneaking a peak at work? shhhh!! Oh and I like your picture/icon!

Gina -
It totally a girl thing! If Jennika doesnt get much sleep she is just like that! She will terrorize Ian as well. Your doing the right thing by trouble talking with her. Good luck!

Marcus is not that sassy, but today I took him to the gym and he was jumping on everything and running around like a wild animal! OHH! Kids!
Let me know if the sleep thing works. Marcus hasn't taken a nap since he was 2! Does Blake nap?

I struck this with both my girls at the age of four and it turned out that they were yet again just testing the limits because they felt more capable and therefore more grownup.
I remember that we started to let them make little decisions about the house which gave them that grownup feeling and the sassy attitude backed off a lot.
Stuff like choosing their own outfits in the morning, helping me choose a pair of earrings, helping to decide what to cook for dinner, giving them little easy housework jobs - mine love to clean windows!, and stuff like that.

ll, little miss independant loves everything you talked about. it is true, when i do pay her more attention, letting her windex the coffee table, help me cook, etc, she is less sassy. sometimes i guess i get too busy and just want to do it myself though. lol
