List 8 things from your childhood that you wish all children could have or experience
1. I grew up in Germany for the most part. Went to nursery school there and then moved back from 8-12 grade. I personally think it was the best way for me to have grown up. I think one day I will be Euro again. it gave me my love for cultures, language, people, travel and being able to see outside the box that is America.
2. Independence- my parents trusted me- silly people! hahah kidding. I would compare it to in today's society,. giving my kids a cell phone, letting them drive themselves to work, school, parties, and be somewhat in charge of their lives. I have friends who micro manage their teens and it just crushes their spirits.. granted, this comes with respect to us and responsiblity
3. We had foster kids in our house at all times- wonderful ! taught us to be unselfish, loving and empathetic.
4. Every occasion was a celebration- birthdays were big celebrations, Christmas was so special! etc...
5. Traditions- such as fondue on Christmas Eve, Cascarones on Easter,
6. Travel- My mom took me on a trip to Paris when i was 16, I went on a Trip with my class to Scotland and England, then with my brother to London, Paris, Brussels, skiing in the Alps,. and yearly trips to (former) a resort Yugoslavia. We did weekend trips to France to antique. what a brat i was!
7. I was really really into skating, such as went to regionals and skated on a very competitive level. I appreciate very much all of their time and money
8. Since i was 15 till i left for college, I went weekly to clubs in Germany- my parents knew what i was doing! but i was careful , had a few beers and it just wasnt a big deal there, - it was more like a "local" as our British Friends call it, and it was a place to gather , hang out , .... kids these days dont have that.
