Jesus Walks

2005-02-20

Did anyone see the Grammys? I caught about ONE minute of it... just in time to see Kanye West. I saw him on Oprah last week, and he sort of gave his testimony on her show. Well, on the Grammys, he sang his song "Jesus Walks"-a testimony in itself... and WOW it was powerful. He had a whole church choir looking dance troupe. They were all passing out in the spirit like a full gospel church. The ":human video"he did at the Grammys had him dying, coming back in a coffin with all the church/choir people crying and dancing. Then the lights went out and he "came back" ending his song declaring Jesus is the only way. I was FLOORED> you NEVER see stuff like this on TV and certainly not from Hollywood. I could not believe it. PLEASE tell me Christianity is getting cool. I for one believe in it, and have seen it totally change my life- if you want i can give you examples of miracle after miracle. But for this famous rapper to be declaring these lines:
not in any particular order....

Between the girls and the jewelry the devil trying to lure me.
My pastor shaking his head his not sure of me, but Jesus Walks
My prayers sound like Ben Stillers on meet the parents
God showed me the way and now the devil can't break me down
I finally talked to God and I ain't afraid because his love is so strong
pray my feet don't fail me now
Thank you Jesus for dying for me
I'm healed
I'm delivered
Now walk with me Jesus
Everyone now lift your hands and say this with me ..."father thank you for forgiving me for everything i ever done. for jesus walking and dying for me... all my sins have been forgiven. I'm a changed man, i'm healed i'm rich, now walk with me walk with me".

Kevin Bacon was the first announcer after his song and he said, kind of jokingly Ï think I just got saved"
I hope Kanye can take this song and make a difference. I do not know much about his other stuff or if it tells a story like this song, but hey even if this one song helps.... it would be a good thing.
I love God. he is sooo good. all the time.

I haven't heard this song, or any of his, for that matter. From what you say, though, it seems kinda funny to me that a lot of my students like him. We were reading about him in USA Today the other day, and it says he was set to take the Grammys by storm. I just wish I could figure out how to say his name the right way! If you notice, though, there are a lot of songs about God and Jesus coming out in popular music now, and being played on the radio. I'll never forget the time I was singing some song (okay, so I DID forget the song!) along with the radio, and realized that I was singing about praising Jesus! It kinda freaked me out a little bit, b/c I wasn't used to hearing songs like that on the radio, especially in the top 40 and that I really liked. I had been singing it for weeks, and hadn't even stopped to think of what the words were saying. Makes me wonder how many songs I've sung along to with the same message and never noticed?

what's that website called again? I told Trey about it the other day, but I couldn't remember what it was called. I told him I think we should join it, and he agreed.

the website is imusic.com. once you join (1.49 a month paid in full for one year... what is 1.49 x 12? LOL) you can download UNLIMITED songs ... do not do napster who charges up to .99 a song!!! RIP OFF> imusic , once dowloaded takes you to a site called limewire, and this is the place that has the library of songs to choose from. it is the best deal, imo.
