Don't you love it when you find a good book? I had heard about this book, and the whole thought of it intrigued me, because we are collectors of cookbooks, and the thought of cooking a whole book would be amazing . Basically, this girl, Julie Powell, set off on a mission to cook the entire Julia Child's famous Mastering the Art of French Cooking in a single year. Her writing is so down to earth, and you would probably like it , because apparantly ,. she has/had a blog, which i am on the mission to find. Calls her blog readers BLEADERS. she writes " there's a dangerous , confessional thrill to opening up your eminently fascinating life and brain to the world at large, and the internet makes it all so much faster and more breathless and exciting".

she also writes... and i love this part..."there are two kinds of friends in the world, those who inspire in you all that is great and good and those who'd prefer to get right down on their haunches and help out with the mud pies... Gwen definitely falls into the latter category. I call her the devil on my shoulder. Sally encourages me to find my inner greatness, to love myself and treat my body like a temple. She wishes i would quit drinking so much and wants me to go to therapy. I probably should spend more time with her. But especially during the tough times, the days of aspic and freezing rain, i found myself craving not betterment and hope and an exercise partner so much as a fresh bottle of booze, a pack of marlboros and someone content to eat butter sauce and watch reruns on TV with me.

We all need a Gwen. I have a few Gwens and for that I am blessed.
So you should put this book on your short list .... I am not done with it yet, but wanted you all to get a good start so we can marvel at it together. LOL

As I sit and think of the two friends, I would have to say that I am a mixture of both. Friends know when to encourage, uplift, inspire...but, to have a friend that shows up with the shiraz in hand and hangs out watching movies and eating ice cream...not helping, just existing with another that has been there...and can SILENTLY say...we'll get thru it together...we are one in the same...selah.....

i love this book. i like this woman, she is so talented and funny and honest. and what she did was so courageous, and difficult!
i had found a great interview in the NY Times I think. And i also think she has a blog. (i mean a new one, after the one that made her famous).
